Setup Instructions

Step 1 — Flash your Duck

  • Open your instance of the DMS Web Flasher in a Chromium-based browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave).
  • Plug your Duck device into your computer via USB.
  • Select a firmware template — we recommend MamaDuck GPS for this example.
  • Choose your MamaDuck from the list and flash the device.

Step 2 — Connect to the Duck’s WiFi

  • Once the MamaDuck reboots, it will broadcast a WiFi access point with the name you selected during flashing.
  • On your phone or laptop, connect to this WiFi network.
  • A Captive Portal should open automatically. If it doesn’t, open a browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1.

Step 3 — Send a Message

  • In the Captive Portal, tap Send Message.
  • Enter your message (e.g., “I’m here” or “Need medical help”).
  • Press Send.

Your message will now travel over the LoRa mesh network until it reaches the PapaDuck gateway, which forwards it into the OWL DMS. From there, responders or operators can view and act on the incoming data.
